hi, i’m sara —

I’m a bilingual journalist with experience in digital media and audio production, covering the nooks and crannies, nuances and novelties of nonprofits, labor, migration, gender, housing, and social movements. I’m currently a reporter for The Chronicle of Philanthropy, and my freelance work has appeared in Dissent Magazine, The American Prospect, Truthout, and Documented NY. I previously worked as a fellow for Futuro Media’s In The Thick podcast, and as an assistant editor for Beyond Housing, a magazine about housing and homelessness.

In 2021, I graduated from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, where I studied Spanish-language journalism and international reporting. I interned for The Forward and Pacifica Radio’s WBAI 99.5 FM, and spent nearly nine months reporting on trans Latinx sex workers for a bilingual multimedia capstone project. I’m also a 2022 Overseas Press Club Foundation Scholar.

In a prior life, I studied international security and foreign policy at Boston University, and spent several years working in education, refugee services, and homeless services in Santiago, Chile, Mexico City, and New York City.
